Romania at a glance

Romania attracts visitors from across the world who are drawn by its abundant opportunities for sight seeing and exploration. Amenities like Roman & Greek ruins, medieval castles, fortified citadels, old churches and open-air folk museums abound in Romania, from the Black Sea Coast to the high tracks in the Carpathian Mountains. Meanwhile, Romania boasts charming small towns and villages that are a living testament to the history of each region.

Dobrudja

From the antique town of Tomis to the Măcin Mountains - the oldest in Romania and the magnificent Danube Delta, Dobrudja is not only a scenic beauty but a region with an obvious calling for tourists. The Roman Monument of Adamclisi, the Roman Mosaic in Constanţa , the Greek ruins of Histria, Tomis and Callatis, the Genovese Lighthouse, together with the Great Turkish Mosques are a living heritage of past and present. The “Holy triangle” of Saon, Cocoş and Celik-Dere Monasteries together with the old church of Niculiţel in north of Dobrudja lures the travelers who seek a restful place away from modern life. And, like nowhere in Europe, the land between dreams and the indescribable reality is waiting for you: the Danube Delta.

Bucovina & Maramureş

More than just beautiful, this land is famous world wide for its monasteries and folk traditions. The Moldavian Monasteries such us Voroneţ, Humor, Moldoviţa and Suceviţa are among few in the world that have painted frescoes on the outside walls. An art for eternity, the monasteries have been part of the UNESCO list of protected monuments for more than 30 years and in 1975 they won the highest distinction of honour „The Golden Apple”. The architectural style of Maramureş villages with their old fashioned houses and carved wood gates, together with the folk costumes and local festivals are the centerpieces of the cultural experience in this region.

Transylvania

Every settlement in Transylvania is a new experience in this cradle of medieval vestiges. The grand buildings in Braşov, Cluj, Sibiu and Târgu Mureş, the old monuments and the museums preserve medieval history for eternity. Sighişoara, the UNESCO’s citadel 100 % inhabited together with the fortified churches of Biertan, Prejmer, Râşnov, and Viscri, are a living proof of the Saxon influence in the region. To all these, we add the Hungarian traditions you may find in the villages and the legendary Dracula’s Castle in Bran.

Wallachia

The location of most Romanian capitals throughout the ages and host of many battles in the past, Wallachia holds impressive numbers of monasteries like Curtea de Argeş, many towns and also the capital city of Romania: Bucharest. Having passed through ages of great transformations from the 15th century when Vlad the Impaler erected the fortified town to the interwar period when the city became 'The Little Paris' of Eastern Europe, Bucharest is now the scene of new opportunities. The Parliament Palace, Domniţa Bălaşa Church, the Folk and Peasant Museums are just a few of the main cultural attractions in the city. The Peleş Castle, the royal residence of all the Romanian kings along the ages is well worth a visit.
